Food post

**Don't forget to scroll down and look at our final Nicaragua post.

Well after allof that excitement, there was no Bojangles after all. The sign remained, but it was being transformed into a disco. Oh, well, we will save the butter biscuits and sweet tea for another time. It did get us thinking. If we were in Raleigh, we actually would want many other things before Bojanlges, which we would be low on the list. Help us think of good local restaurants in Raleigh or Boone. Here are our favorites that came to mind:

(Raleigh/Raleigh area)
Biscuit Station-puts Bojangles to shame and there is nothing more delicious than their Bologna/Egg/Cheese biscuit.

Mitch's-It was our last meal beforeleaving and will likely be one of our first coming back.

Bali Hai-Sketchy looking from the outside, some of the best food in Raleigh on the inside.

Tir-Na-Nog- Irish food is great here and the veggie sandwich is also excellent.

Baja Burrito-oh sweet baja burrito

Amedeos-ok, the food is really good, not really great, but the walls are covered in Wolfpack memorabilia

Lily's Pizza-good and weird

Abyssinia Ethiopian-delicious and unique

Goodberry's-nuff said

McClean's- Zebulon favorite, though it was better before it moved

Gallery Cafe-best restaurant in Wendell and well worth the drive from Raleigh for a great lunch.

(Boone)
Coyote Kitchen-awesome tex-mexish sort of place

Tupelo's-used to be Angelica's. I think it is just as good, but I know Helms disagrees

Peppers-awesome sandwiches

Parkway Cafe-RC Cola on tap, huge burgers, greasy vegetables, you have to go outside to use the restroom...highly recommended (actually closer to W. Jefferson than Boone)

Casa Rustica-Eye-talian deliciousness

OK, help us out with some others. Put the name and some description so we know what it is. It has to be local. (All of this makes Bojangles sounds kind of nasty actually)
Feel free to throw stuff out from other areas as well. (St. Louis-Sheebah Burger!!!)

Ok. Try this on in your mind:
Youngsville (yes, Youngsville).
Saturday night.

Start at Tarheel Wine Traders on Main Street for free wine tasting and much conviviality, then move next door to Gigi's House, a French bistro (owned by an actual French guy--Stephan does all the cooking) (Gigi is his dog), for live music and unbelievably good, though quirky, food.

If you want to try the Gigi's Special pizza (Gorgonzola, sundried tomatoes, walnuts, and fresh pear), but ask if you can substitute mozzerella for the blue cheese--Stephan WILL come out of the kitchen to explain why he just can't do that (it's because the flavors won't be "balanced")--and even though you think you don't like blue cheese, you will discover that he's right, and that nothing else would be nearly so delicious.

Many crazy delicious pizza combinations--Joel's favorite is the Provencal (which he says he never would have dreamed of putting in his mouth, let alone loving, except that he has learned to trust Stephan). Asparagus, artichoke hearts, roasted red pepper, mushrooms, goat cheese, and (special just for Joel) prosciutto (which Stephan said would work, but only if it was added after it came out of the oven).

Also many other non-pizza wonderful stuff.

We'd love this place anywhere, but that it's in Youngsville... Come on. Wine tasting (and we're not talking scuppernong here), a French restaurant, and live music. In Youngsville.

Wow.

Tupelo's...makes me grieve Angelica's just thinking about it.

Our daily bread is my new Boone favorite.

Melanie's is good to, especially brunch. (Boone)

In Charlotte:
Zada Jane's... good local food and shuffle board outside.

Gardenia...great meat and three within walking distance from the house.

Udipi...good Indian food.

Mama Ricotta's...you won't believe the antipasto dish. Holy cow!

Raleigh: I used to love Mr. Dunderbauch's (spelling?) in Crabtree Valley mall. Casa Carbone was my favorite Italian place.

Richmond: I could list all day. Mama Zu's italian heaven. 821 cafe, great billy philly sandwich. These are two of my favorites.

Boone: the Tom Kah soup at Maria's suggested Thai restaraunt is beyond good!

Charlotte: Ishi is a great cheap Japanese habachi place with good sushi too. I love the friend pickles at The Penguin.

Southport: The now closed Sweet Treats will always be a favorite of mine. I also love the food and ambiance of the Provision company (seafood and al fresco).

Adam....Tracy....what about a pizza from John & Carol's Kitchen, located in the Boone Suburb of Vilas?

Charlotte: Cuisine Malaya, the area's only Malaysian restaurant. The curry laksa vegetable is unbelievable. Also the place where Ernie and Tricia ate sushi for the first time.

Mac's Speed Shop: the best non-NC barbecue spot around, plus an incredible list of microbrews.

Well, what ever happened to MOM'S CAFE. Have you forgotten the aroma from the kitchen when you walked through the door? Can you still feel how snugg your pants felt when you pulled away from a table full of her good eats? Can't you just hear her say "what else can I get for you"? And what about the left overs to take back home. It don't get any better than that!

Miss you but wishing I could eat a little of your daily portions!
